Abstract

Interpersonal communication is the exchange of information between two individuals to achieve certain goals by involving communicators, communicants, messages and channels. Nowadays, playing online games is the most popular type of game. The existence of the internet on children's cellphones also facilitates easy access to online games. Due to the popularity of online games, it has a negative impact, namely addiction in children, who prioritize games over learning. Therefore, the role of children's interpersonal communication with their parents is needed in helping them prevent and overcome online game addiction effectively. The aim of this research is to determine interpersonal communication between parents and children and the strategies used in dealing with online game addiction. This scientific work research uses a qualitative descriptive method, with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews with four sources. The results of the research show that parents' understanding of how to communicate well with their children to overcome the problem of online game addiction is not established effectively. Children often do not want to listen to their parents' advice and parents are busy with their personal affairs, and also children tend to act out of bounds because they feel a lack of parental control. Another factor is the lack of interpersonal communication within the family, which makes children feel as if they are not getting enough attention. As a result, children prefer to play games to entertain themselves when they are at home
